The Hanging Temple or Hanging Monastery (simplified Chinese: 悬空寺; traditional Chinese: 懸空寺; pinyin: Xuánkong Sì) is a temple built into a cliff (75 m or 246 ft above the ground) near Mount Heng in Hunyuan County, Shanxi province, China. The closest city is Datong, 64.23 kilometers to the northwest. Along with the Yungang Grottoes, the Hanging Temple is one of the main tourist attractions and historical sites in the Datong area. Built more than 1,500 years ago, this temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it includes Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian elements. The structure is kept in place with oak crossbeams fitted into holes chiseled into the cliffs. The main supportive structure was hidden inside the bedrock.According to the history of Shangshen Mountain, construction of the temple was by only one man, a monk named Liao Ran (了然). Over a history of more than 1,600 years many repairs and extension led to its present day scale.This temple is over 50 meters tall.  From Wikipedia

चीन के शांची प्रांत में हेंग पहाड़ी पर बना यह बुद्ध मंदिर हैरत जगाता है। अब से लगभग 1600 साल बने इस मंदिर के बारे में कहा जाता है कि इसे लियाओ रन नामक भिक्षु ने अकेले बनाया। मंदिर से कम रोचक नहीं है इस तक पहुँचने का रास्ता। कई जगह तो केवल छेनी से चट्टान काटकर इसे बनाया गया है।

राष्ट्रपति-चुनाव से जुड़ी अटपटी-चटपटी राजनीति

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने धमकी दी है कि प्रणव मुखर्जी राष्ट्रपति पद का चुनाव जीत भी गए तो उनके खिलाफ चुनाव याचिका दायर की जाएगी। रिटर्निंग अफसर वीके अग्निहोत्री द्वारा विपक्ष की आपत्ति खारिज किए जाने के बाद अब सोमवार को जनता पार्टी के नेता सुब्रह्मण्यम स्वामी कुछ नए प्रमाणों के साथ एक नई शिकायत दर्ज कराएंगे। रिटर्निंग अफसर ने विपक्ष की इस आपत्ति को खारिज कर दिया था कि प्रणव मुखर्जी चूंकि भारतीय सांख्यिकी संस्थान के अध्यक्ष पद पर काम कर रहे हैं जो लाभ का पद है इसलिए उनका नामांकन खारिज कर दिया जाए। रिटर्निंग अफसर का कहना है कि प्रणव मुखर्जी ने 20 जून को यह पद छोड़ दिया था।

भाजपा नेता सुषमा स्वराज का कहना है कि प्रणव मुखर्जी नामांकन पत्र दाखिल करने के पहले इस्तीफा नहीं दे पाए थे। यह इस्तीफा बाद में बनाया गया, जिसमें प्रणव मुखर्जी के दस्तखत भी जाली हैं। यह इस्तीफा संस्थान के रिकॉर्ड में दर्ज नहीं है। यह 20 जून को लिखा गया, उसी रोज कोलकाता भेजा गया, उसी रोज स्वीकार होकर वापस आ गया। यह फर्जी है। बहरहाल इस मामले में जो भी हो, देखने की बात यह है कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी इतने तकनीकी आधार पर इस मामले को क्यों उठा रही है? इससे क्या उसे कोई राजनीतिक लाभ मिल पाएगा? दो महीने पहले लगता था कि इस बार कांग्रेस के लिए राष्ट्रपति चुनाव भारी पड़ेगा और एनडीए उसे अर्दब में ले लेगा, पर ऐसा हुआ नहीं। एनडीए ने एक ओर तो अपना प्रत्याशी तय करने में देरी की, फिर अपने दो घटक दलों शिव सेना और जनता दल युनाइटेड को यूपीए प्रत्याशी के समर्थन में जाने से रोक नहीं पाया। और अब यह तकनीकी विरोध बचकाना लगता है। शुरू में सुषमा स्वराज ने कहा था कि हम कांग्रेस प्रत्याशी का समर्थन नहीं करेंगे, क्योंकि 2014 के चुनाव में हम यूपीए से सीधे मुकाबले में हैं। यह हमारे लिए राजनीतिक प्रश्न है।

नया वैश्विक सत्य, उन्माद नहीं सहयोग

दिफाए पाकिस्तान कौंसिल ने रविवार को लाहौर से लांग मार्च शुरू किया है, जिसका उद्देश्य नेटो सेनाओं की रसद सप्लाई पर लगी रोक हटाने के खिलाफ नाराज़गी जताना है। इस बीच अमेरिका ने अफगानिस्तान को गैर-नेटो देशों में अपने सामरिक साझीदारों की सूची में शामिल करके आने वाले समय में इस इलाके के सत्ता संतुलन का संकेत दिया है। पाकिस्तान के सत्ता प्रतिष्ठान को समझ में आने लगा है कि यह वक्त आर्खिक सहयोग का है, टकराव का नहीं, पर वहाँ का कट्टरपंथी तबका इस बात को समझने के लिए तैयार नहीं है।

हाल में भारत आए पाकिस्तान के विदेश सचिव जलील अब्बास जीलानी और भारत के विदेश सचिव रंजन मथाई के बीच दो दिन की बातचीत के बाद हुई प्रेस कांफ्रेस में दोनों सचिवों ने मीडिया से अपील की कि वह दोनों देशों के बीच टकराव का माहौल न बनाए। इस बातचीत का मकसद दोनों देशों के बीच रिश्तों को बेहतर बनाना था, जिसमें जम्मू-कश्मीर, आतंकवाद और भरोसा बढ़ाने वाले कदम (सीबीएम) शामिल हैं। दोनों देशों के रिश्ते जिस भावनात्मक धरातल पर हैं, उसमें सबसे बड़ा सीबीएम मीडिया के हाथ में है। जब भी भारत और पाकिस्तान का मैच खेल के मैदान पर होता है मीडिया में ‘आर्च राइवल्स’, परम्परागत प्रतिद्वंदी, जानी दुश्मन जैसे शब्द हवा में तैरने लगते हैं। किसी एक की विजय पर उस देश में जिस शिद्दत के साथ समारोह मनाया जाता है तकरीबन उसी शिद्दत से हारने वाले देश में शोक मनाया जाता है। इसके विपरीत दोनों देशों के बीच की सरकारी शब्दावली पर जाएं तो उसमें काफी बदलाव आ गया है। ताजा संयुक्त वक्तव्य को पढ़ें तो यह फर्क समझ में आएगा। पर दोनों विदेश सचिवों के संयुक्त संवाददाता सम्मेलन में बातें बार-बार अबू जुंदाल पर जा रहीं थीं।

Laying down paving bricks is back-breaking, time-consuming work. Henk van Kuijk, director of Dutch industrial company Vanku, evidently decided that squatting/kneeling and shoving the bricks into place on the ground was just a little too slow, so he invented the Tiger Stone paving machine. The road-wide device is fed loose bricks, and lays them out onto the road as it slowly moves along. A quick going-over with a tamper, and you’ve got an instant brick road. It is a brick printer or you can say road laying machine. If  this tool is in the hands of some artist and designer it can create artistic roads. This machine could be used to make some insane patterns and murals. Using it to make type or inset lettering into could be super cool as well.

The record for pedal power is held by Sam Whittingham, a compact Canadian who set the world record, a staggering 81 mph, (130km/h) on a streamlined recumbent. Most of the 100mph+ records are set going down mountains or ski slopes, fast yes but hardly done by pedal power. Some of the other high speed records are set by drafting behind cars or trucks. I'll take Sam's speed no drafting and on flat ground.
