नया वैश्विक सत्य, उन्माद नहीं सहयोग

दिफाए पाकिस्तान कौंसिल ने रविवार को लाहौर से लांग मार्च शुरू किया है, जिसका उद्देश्य नेटो सेनाओं की रसद सप्लाई पर लगी रोक हटाने के खिलाफ नाराज़गी जताना है। इस बीच अमेरिका ने अफगानिस्तान को गैर-नेटो देशों में अपने सामरिक साझीदारों की सूची में शामिल करके आने वाले समय में इस इलाके के सत्ता संतुलन का संकेत दिया है। पाकिस्तान के सत्ता प्रतिष्ठान को समझ में आने लगा है कि यह वक्त आर्खिक सहयोग का है, टकराव का नहीं, पर वहाँ का कट्टरपंथी तबका इस बात को समझने के लिए तैयार नहीं है।

हाल में भारत आए पाकिस्तान के विदेश सचिव जलील अब्बास जीलानी और भारत के विदेश सचिव रंजन मथाई के बीच दो दिन की बातचीत के बाद हुई प्रेस कांफ्रेस में दोनों सचिवों ने मीडिया से अपील की कि वह दोनों देशों के बीच टकराव का माहौल न बनाए। इस बातचीत का मकसद दोनों देशों के बीच रिश्तों को बेहतर बनाना था, जिसमें जम्मू-कश्मीर, आतंकवाद और भरोसा बढ़ाने वाले कदम (सीबीएम) शामिल हैं। दोनों देशों के रिश्ते जिस भावनात्मक धरातल पर हैं, उसमें सबसे बड़ा सीबीएम मीडिया के हाथ में है। जब भी भारत और पाकिस्तान का मैच खेल के मैदान पर होता है मीडिया में ‘आर्च राइवल्स’, परम्परागत प्रतिद्वंदी, जानी दुश्मन जैसे शब्द हवा में तैरने लगते हैं। किसी एक की विजय पर उस देश में जिस शिद्दत के साथ समारोह मनाया जाता है तकरीबन उसी शिद्दत से हारने वाले देश में शोक मनाया जाता है। इसके विपरीत दोनों देशों के बीच की सरकारी शब्दावली पर जाएं तो उसमें काफी बदलाव आ गया है। ताजा संयुक्त वक्तव्य को पढ़ें तो यह फर्क समझ में आएगा। पर दोनों विदेश सचिवों के संयुक्त संवाददाता सम्मेलन में बातें बार-बार अबू जुंदाल पर जा रहीं थीं।

Laying down paving bricks is back-breaking, time-consuming work. Henk van Kuijk, director of Dutch industrial company Vanku, evidently decided that squatting/kneeling and shoving the bricks into place on the ground was just a little too slow, so he invented the Tiger Stone paving machine. The road-wide device is fed loose bricks, and lays them out onto the road as it slowly moves along. A quick going-over with a tamper, and you’ve got an instant brick road. It is a brick printer or you can say road laying machine. If  this tool is in the hands of some artist and designer it can create artistic roads. This machine could be used to make some insane patterns and murals. Using it to make type or inset lettering into could be super cool as well.

The record for pedal power is held by Sam Whittingham, a compact Canadian who set the world record, a staggering 81 mph, (130km/h) on a streamlined recumbent. Most of the 100mph+ records are set going down mountains or ski slopes, fast yes but hardly done by pedal power. Some of the other high speed records are set by drafting behind cars or trucks. I'll take Sam's speed no drafting and on flat ground.

Forest on top of the concrete

We've seen a lot of amazing concepts for urban gardens — green-roofed cities, gardens that stretch high into the clouds — but this pair of vertical forests is more than just a concept design. It's currently being built in Milan.

The brainchild of architect Stefano Boeri, Bosco Verticale (simply "vertical forest") is currently under construction in the form of two residential towers. The goal of Bosco Verticale is not only to beautify the cityscape, but also contribute to the creation of an artificial microclimate and improve air quality:

A fascinating new pair of residential tower called Bosco Verticale is being constructed at Milan, Italy. Designed by architect Stefano Boeri, Bosco Verticale is being construed as “a project for metropolitan reforestation that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory”. Towering over the city’s skyline the world's first forest in the sky will be a sight to behold. The 27 storied building will accommodate nearly one hectare of forest trees as tall as oak and amelanchiers in its cleverly designed balconies. The 365 and 260 foot emerald twin towers will house an astonishing 900 trees, 5,000 shrubs and 11,000 ground cover plants.
This is a concept illustration of how Bosco Verticale will look like when completed.
In summer, the trees will provide shade and filter the city’s dust; in winter, sunlight will shrine through the bare branches. Bosco Verticale's greenery will absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, while protecting the building from wind and penetrating sunlight. Boeri claims that the inclusion of trees adds just 5 percent to construction costs, and is a necessary response to the sprawl of the modern city. सृष्टि की खोज में एक लम्बा कदम

हिग्स बोसोन की खोज निश्चित रूप से इनसान का एक लम्बा कदम है, पर इससे सृष्टि की सारी पहेलियाँ सुलझने वाली नहीं हैं। केवल पार्टिकल फिजिक्स की एक श्रृंखला की अप्राप्त कड़ी मिली है। हमें एक अरसे से मालूम है कि सृष्टि में कुछ है, जिसे हम देख नहीं पा रहे हैं। उसे हमने पा लिया है, भले ही उसे देखना आज भी असम्भव है। क्या इससे एंटी मैटर या ब्लैक मैटर के स्रोत का भी पता लग जाएगा? क्या इससे सृष्टि के जन्म की कहानी समझ में आ जाएगी, कहना मुश्किल है। इसमें दो राय नहीं कि आधुनिक फिजिक्स ने जबर्दस्त प्रगति की है, पर अभी हम ज्ञान की बाहरी सतह पर हैं। प्रायः वैज्ञानिकों की राय एक होती है, क्योंकि वे अपने निष्कर्ष प्रयोगिक आधार पर निकालते हैं। पर सृष्टि से जुड़े अधिकतर निष्कर्ष अवधारणाएं हैं। बिंग बैंग भी एक अवधारणा है वैज्ञानिक समुदाय इस अवधारणा के पक्ष में एकमत नहीं है। खगोलविज्ञान से जुड़े भारतीय वैज्ञानिक जयंत विष्णु नार्लीकर का कहना है कि हिग्स बोसोन को लेकर जो मीडिया ने हाइप बनाया है, उसमें कुछ दोष हैं। लार्ज हेड्रोन कोलाइडर में प्रति कण जो ऊर्जा तैयार की गई वह उस ऊर्जा के अरबवें अंश के हजारवें अंश के बराबर भी नहीं हैं, जो सृष्टि के स्फीति-काल में रही होगी। इसी तरह हम उपलब्ध तकनीक और उपकरणों के सहारे पदार्थ का केवल चार फीसदी ही देख पाते हैं। शेष 96 फीसदी के बारे में अनुमान हैं और उन्हें प्रयोगशाला में साबित नहीं किया जा सकता।
